Module 13

Cherry Analytics, KPIs And Management Reporting

Use the Cherry Analytics companion workspace for deterministic reporting, KPI review, commentary and evidence where the organisation has Analytics access.

Learning Goals

By the end of this module, learners should be able to complete the workflow in CherryMoney and explain the accounting reason behind each important step.

  • Open Analytics through the authorised CherryMoney SSO handoff where enabled.
  • Review management KPIs, financial statements and source provenance.
  • Create or interpret controlled custom KPI formulas and non-financial metrics.
  • Review evidence-linked commentary and preserve reviewer approval before publication.

Lesson Plan

Use these lesson blocks for lecture delivery, live demo and class discussion.

Deterministic analytics

Cherry Analytics calculates management outputs from defined source data and formulas rather than asking an AI model to invent figures.

Custom KPIs and evidence

Financial measures can be combined with controlled operational drivers such as headcount or units sold, with clear units and source context.

Commentary and immutable versions

Material movements can be explained with linked evidence, review alerts and frozen report versions for later comparison.

Step-By-Step Lab

This is the student-facing sequence for the practical class. Complete the steps in order, then capture the evidence listed below.

  1. Confirm the user has an explicit Analytics grant and the required feature flags.
  2. Select the correct organisation or authorised accountant workspace.
  3. Review the dashboard period, source status and reporting currency before interpreting KPIs.
  4. Open a KPI or statement and inspect its evidence or source provenance.
  5. Review commentary and exceptions before publishing or sharing an output.
  6. Capture the version or integrity reference used for the training evidence pack.

Classroom Run Sheet

Use this structure to teach the module in a repeatable classroom or lab session.

Explain
Explain this module Introduce the accounting concept first: customer, invoice, VAT, expense, fund, role or audit trail.
Demonstrate
Demonstrate this module Trainer performs the workflow once in CherryMoney using a projected simulator account.
Practise
Practise this module Students complete the same workflow in their own VM tenant using seeded records.
Review
Review this module Students compare system outputs with expected accounting treatment and discuss errors.
Evidence
Evidence this module Students submit screenshots, exports, PDFs or short explanations for assessment.

Simulator Practice

These are the VM practice tasks for this module. They are written as student-facing tasks and can later be wired into a guided simulator checklist.

Practice Brief

  1. Open the Analytics workspace from a fictional reviewer account.
  2. Trace one KPI back to its source figures.
  3. Create or inspect a custom KPI that combines a financial value with one operational metric.
  4. Review an evidence-linked commentary item and approve or challenge it.
  5. Reopen a frozen version and confirm the stored output does not change.

Knowledge Check

Use these questions for in-class review, a short quiz or a reflective workbook entry. Answers are hidden by default — open each one to check your work.

  1. Q1 Why should a KPI be traceable to its source figures? Answer

So a reviewer can inspect exactly which records and formulas produced the number, rather than trusting a figure with no provenance.

  2. Q2 What is the benefit of an immutable report version? Answer

A frozen version can be reopened later and its stored output won't have changed, which supports later comparison and accountability.

  3. Q3 Why should management commentary link to evidence before publication? Answer

So a material movement isn't just asserted in prose — a reviewer can check the linked evidence behind the explanation before it's published.

Assessment And Evidence

Students should submit proof that the workflow was completed and a short explanation of the decisions made.

Student Evidence

  • Submit one KPI evidence trace and one commentary review decision.
  • Explain why a management dashboard is not a substitute for statutory accounts or audit sign-off.

Trainer Notes

  • Use only Analytics-enabled training tenants and fictional source data.

Continue The Course

Move through the modules in order for a complete accounting, invoicing, compliance and AI finance workflow.
